# Netlify Deploy Previews turns a pull request into something the team can open

> A preview URL gives designers, editors, and developers a shared version to check before a change reaches the live site. Here is the workflow behind it.

A code diff does not show an editor whether a long headline breaks the page. A preview deployment gives that discussion a working URL. Netlify’s existing Deploy Previews workflow builds a separate version of a site from a pull or merge request in a connected repository.

The preview is distinct from the production site. Successful subsequent builds update the pull request’s preview URL, and Netlify also exposes a deployment-specific permalink. [The documentation](https://docs.netlify.com/deploy/deploy-types/deploy-previews/) explains that distinction and the repository configuration involved. This is a workflow explainer, not a newly announced feature.

## Review a page with real content

For a software publication, a useful preview check includes a long title, a tall product logo, an article without an optional field, and a narrow screen. Those cases are easier to discuss when everyone can open the same build.

The team should also agree which version a comment refers to. A stable pull-request URL may show newer changes by the time someone returns to it; a permalink can preserve the exact build under discussion. That small distinction helps avoid feedback that sounds contradictory simply because two people were looking at different versions.
